Methods for Cutting Glass Bottles:
1. Glass Cutter Method:
Use a glass cutter to score a line on the bottle, then heat and cut along the scored line. Secure the bottle with a glass cutter, mark the desired cutting line on the bottle, creating a deep score. Use a propane torch to heat the scored line while rotating the bottle, then quickly cool it with cold water to separate the bottle. Alternatively, you can use a candle for heating and cold water for cooling.
2. Rope and Flame Method:
You will need a bottle, a lighter, cotton string, scissors, and alcohol or kerosene.
Soak the cotton string in alcohol, then wrap it around the section of the bottle that needs to be cut.
Ignite the string and hold the bottle horizontally, rotating it evenly. Before the fire extinguishes, immerse the bottle in water. The heated glass will be severed due to the rapid decrease in temperature. To prevent any sharp edges, which could cause injury, lightly sand the cut edges with fine sandpaper or a sharpening stone before using the bottle.
If you need to drill a hole, mark the spot with adhesive tape to prevent the drill from slipping while operating on the glass. Align the drill with the marked spot and proceed with drilling.
You can also use iron wire or copper wire to cut glass by transferring heat through conduction. This method allows for cutting various irregular shapes.
